Superintendent Andre’ L. Curry

Superintendent Andre’ Curry, a Greenville native, was employed at Mississippi Valley State University in 1989 as Vice President of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs. Although his title changed in 2009 to Vice President of Business and Finance, his responsibilities remained the same. As Vice President for Business and Finance and the University Investment Officer, his responsibilities included the management of all business and financial functions of the University. These functions supported the educational activities, provided services to enrolled students, faculty, staff, and administration as well as the protection of the physical assets of the University. Superintendent Curry retired in January 2010.

Superintendent Curry’s educational degrees and certifications are as follows: Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Alcorn State University, Lorman, MS; Master of Professional Accountancy from Jackson State University, Jackson, MS; Certified Public Accountant in the State of Mississippi, and a Certificate of Business Management, Lexington, Kentucky.

Supt. Curry has worked in the accounting profession for more than thirty-seven years. He began his career in accounting at the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning in several capacities: Accounting Clerk, Accountant, Chief Accountant, and Director of Accounting. Supt. Curry served as Vice President of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs and Vice President of Business and Finance at Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS for more than twenty years.

Superintendent Curry holds memberships in numerous professional affiliations, which include the Mississippi society of Certified Public Accountant. He has served on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Reaffirmation Visiting Committees. Other affiliations include the University Press Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of MVSU (Advisory Capacity). He received favorable opinions from the Mississippi State Office of Audit during his tenure at “The Valley”. During his tenure, he was extraordinarily instrumental in keeping Mississippi Valley State University in a financial secure status.

Having served with distinction, excellence, and integrity, Supt. Curry acknowledges God as the source of all his accomplishments. He is a former member of the Amazing Church of God in Christ. He served in various roles including, minister, trustee, Sunday School teacher, sanctuary choir president, prayer leader, and deacon. After moving to the Delta, he became a member of Lily of the Valley COGIC, under the leadership of Supt. George Copprue where he continued to work faithfully in the ministry. After attending for more than three years, the Northern Mississippi Biblical Training Seminars, Supt. Copprue recommended him to Bishop Scott and the Examination Board for ordination as an Elder. He was ordained in 1991 and faithfully supported Supt. Copprue and Lily of the Valley COGIC until Bishop T. T. Scott appointed him pastor of Mitchell Temple (Word of Life) COGIC, Indianola, MS in October, 1995.

On the district and state levels, Supt. Curry serves on the finance committee and seminar facilitator for district four, member of the Northern Mississippi Board of Trustees and Superintendent of the Moorhead District. He also served as the Jurisdictional Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Superintendent for district two.

Superintendent Curry is married to Dr. Vickie E. Nelson Curry, his wife of 41 years. They have four children: a daughter, Andrea La’Shay (deceased); three sons: Andre’ La’costa,II, Adaiah Lebbaeus (Reshunda), and Aaron Lamont, and a grandson, Adaiah II.
